Michel Rosenfelder was born in 1969 in Allier, France.
He originally wanted to become a designer but decided to pursue a path in International Commerce & Business instead. However, it was when he started to work in fashion that he discovered his true passion for different art forms and creative expressions.
All the years he spent working as a creative alongside leading designers in luxury fashion really triggered Michel’s interest in seeing the beauty of unexpected aesthetic forms. This experience consequently pushed him, unconsciously, to express himself artistically.
His fascination with walls and urban surfaces, that he observes and studies during his travels around the world, is of both physical and symbolic importance. He discovers materials marked by time, cracked coatings, patinas and extracts, sometimes figurative, but often abstract images that question the perception of the urban landscape and create a dialogue with the viewer; a response to the “wall of incomprehension” that crosses his path.
Beyond purely aesthetic research, precisely selecting the perimeter of the vertical surface which touch him through his lens, he cuts down what defines, divides and gives meaning to space and he opens imaginary windows … The obscurity and secrets of the ancient walls are dissipated, a presence is manifested, what is near becomes distant. This offers the opportunity to immerse in an image that exists only in the eyes of the beholder … Partitioning becomes a contemplative space.
To maintain the authenticity of what he observes, Michel uses no filter and does not retouch the images. Only the enlargement of the print reveals the true beauty of the material.
